Why I am qualified to teach
Personal Management*
Personal Bio:  Peter Baldwin is the Varsity Coach of the Roundrock Varsity Team, a Plano-based team that has combined three scouting units into one functioning unit. Baldwin teaches Varsity Leader courses at the Council level (University of Scouting at SMU & Varsity Vision Training), District Level (District Day of Training), and Local level as called upon by Varsity teams seeking to more successfully run their programs.  Baldwin is a graduate of the Woodbadge 111 course and an alumnus of the Philmont Training Center.  Baldwin loves the scouting program and the opportunities it provides to teach skills and life lessons to the youth.

Work Bio: Peter Baldwin is an operational finance and change management leader with specialization in strategic data analytics and business transformation.  As a former Big 4 management consultant, Baldwin initially developed and applied these skills to Fortune 500 companies.  Baldwin determined that the small-to-medium-sized business (SMB) market greatly needed operational finance expertise, but only if those services could be packaged in a way that made sense to companies with more limited budgets. To effectively reach the SMB market, he developed and refined a series of tools & techniques that fully integrate and streamline the operational finance function for SMBs in the areas of strategic finance, business process design, and controllership / bookkeeping.  Baldwin is often referred by DFW-area banks to assist their clients and prospects who may be experiencing ownership succession, high growth, or distress. He typically occupies the role of part-time or interim CFO in such companies.
Prerequisites for this Activity Personal Management is one of the more challenging merit badges for scouts as it does not immediately appear to hold the glamour of more action-oriented merit badges, but learning to manage one's money and time is one of the most useful life skills.  My desire is that each scout leaves my class with more than a merit badge, but with a foundation of skills that will promote personal success.  I have experienced a variety of methods for teaching merit badges and observed the retention ability of various scouts.  Some merit badge classes are very informal and do not require much tangible output from their students.  If this is your preference, I would encourage you now to find another class with another instructor.  I have come to prefer the method used by the National Scouting Museum in Irving, Texas.  Each student is required to bring a merit badge workbook to class and have the workbook completed before being passed off on any and all requirements.  There will be opportunities for the scouts to take notes in their workbooks during class sessions, but I encourage parents particularly to work with their sons in filling out major portions of the workbook prior to coming to class.  As we will have two class sessions, there will be time between sessions to complete the workbooks.

The workbooks can be printed from the following website: https://meritbadge.org/wiki/images/f/fa/Personal_Management.pdf

Thank you and I look forward to a great time with your sons!
